Women’s team shines at Squash Federation Awards MALAYSIAN foursome Nesserine Ariffin, Low Wee Wern, Low Wee Nee and P.T. Pushppa Devi were the surprise winners of the Outstanding Women Team award in the 2007 Squash Federation (ASF) awards ceremony in Kuwait recently.
They were the unanimous winners of the award for being the silver medallist in the World Junior girls’ squash championship in Hong Kong last year.
Malaysia, seeded fifth, had a gallant run in the championships with stunning victories over third seeds New Zealand in the quarterfinals and second seeds England in the semi-finals.

On both occasions, the Malaysians won 2-1.
In the final, Malaysia fell 0-2 to Egypt. It was the second time our squash team finished runners-up in the championships.
Ironically, Malaysia – led by Nicol David, also came out second in the 2001 championships in Penang.
The Malaysian senior men team - Ong Beng Hee, Mohamed Azlan Iskandar. Mohamed Nafiizwan Adnan and Mohamed Asyraf Azan - was named as the Outstanding Men’s Team for finishing fifth in the World Men’s squash championships in Chennai, India.
Besides the two Malaysian teams, several other Malaysians were also honoured at the awards ceremony held during the Asian championships.
Mohamed Azlan and Nicol David won the Datuk Alex Lee awards (men and women) while Ivan Yuen was voted as the winner for the Hassan Musa Award.
Malaysian coaches Cheong Pak Kau and Ahmad Malik were among the four recipients of the Certificate of Recognition.
