KUALA LUMPUR: National number three squash player Delia Arnold received a double dose of good news this week.
The 22-year-old Kuala Lumpur lass broke into the world top-40 for the first time with her 36th position, an improvement of 10 rungs, when the la-*test*-('") rankings list was released by the Women's International Squash Players Association (Wispa) on Sunday.
And she was told on Wednesday that she would be going on a three-month training stint in London at the end of this month.
A delighted Delia said that this was the first time she managed to break into the top-40 since turning pro five years ago.
“I improved my rankings after entering the final of the NSC Super Satellite No. 2 tournament last month and I also earned points for playing in the main draw of the Malaysian Open (last month) as a wild-card entry,” said Delia.
Delia added that the London training would be her first long overseas stint.
“I went to London in March for six weeks stint under Malcolm (Willstrop) but this time I will train under Peter (Genever), who is coaching Malaysia’s Mohd Azlan (Iskandar).
“I hope to further improve my game under the guidance of Peter,” said Delia, who will play in the NSC Tour No. 2 tournament starting at the National Squash Centre in Bukit Jalil on Wednesday.
Delia, the sixth seed, will face a qualifier in the first round. In the quarter-finals, she is expected to face team-mate and national number two Sharon Wee.
Hong Kong's Rebecca Chiu is the top seed. The other Malaysians in the tournament are Lim Yoke Wah, Siti Munirah Jusoh and Low Wee Wern.
